Solomon Islands officially commissioned its first-ever Embassy located at Abu Dhabi in United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday.
Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele, Foreign Affairs Minister Peter Shanel Agovaka and a high level government delegation witnessed the historic occasion.
Minister Agovaka joined the delegation after attending the United Nation General Assembly (UNGA) session in New York.
A statement from the Prime Ministers Office on Monday said, “today marks the official opening of Solomon Islands new Embassy in the United Arab Emirates.”
The statement added that from a modest beginning, Monday’s inauguration evolves as a proud symbol of the Solomon Islands-UAE enduring partnership.
“It underscores the two nations commitment to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance their cooperation in various sectors marking an important milestone in the flourishing relations between the two nations.
“Being the hub of trade and commerce in the Gulf region with a robust economy that has grown exponentially over a reasonably short period, UAE offers a model of development Solomon Islands can learn from,” the statement said.
The opening of the embassy symbolizes the confidence and trust the country had in the bilateral relationship with UAE, more so it presents an opportunity for Solomon Islands to pursue areas of cooperation with UAE, it was highlighted.
The country’s new embassy in UAE is manned by Cornelius Walegarea, a former deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade.
From Abu Dhabi, the Prime Minster will travel to Saudi Arabia for his state visit. He is expected back in the country on 07 October 2024.
