FREE wi-fi is now available on the Port Vila waterfront. Officials made the announcement during 51st anniversary celebrations of the Port Vila City Council.

Acting Town Clerk Etienne Ravo announced the free wi-fi initiative, developed with Pacific Network, in his official address to the community. He framed the project as a significant advancement for digital connectivity, noting that it would benefit students, tourists, business operators, and local residents by improving access to information and online services.

Speaking under the theme “Rebuild Together and Grow Strong,” Ravo emphasised that innovation remains central to the capital’s development strategy as the city continues its post-disaster recovery efforts.

The anniversary event also saw the announcement of new solar-powered lighting along the seafront promenade.

Ravo described this as a key investment in both public safety and environmental sustainability, reflecting the council’s commitment to modernising urban infrastructure.

During his address, the Acting Town Clerk formally presented the PVCC Strategic Plan 2026–2030, which sets out the council’s vision for the next five years. The plan is aligned with the national People’s Plan 2030 and focuses on infrastructure, innovation, community services, environmental protection, and economic growth.

Ravo acknowledged persistent difficulties facing the municipality, including waste management pressures, urban sprawl, budget limitations, and climate-related threats. However, he expressed confidence that these challenges could be transformed into opportunities through creative approaches and collaborative partnerships.

He also expressed gratitude to donor organisations, non-governmental groups, and community partners who have assisted the city’s rebuilding efforts following recent natural disasters.

With municipal elections scheduled for August, Ravo announced that National ID card printing fees have been waived during the anniversary period to help residents register and prepare to vote.

In closing, he urged the community to remain united in its efforts.

“Port Vila is not merely a city, but a community of people united in purpose,” he said. “Together, we rebuild. Together, we grow strong.”
