ROUND Four of the OFC Pro League saw South Island United dump PNG Hekari FC after play was delayed for close to an hour due to a heavy downpour at Honiara’s National Stadium.
PNG Hekari dominated early in the match through Joseph Joe and Ate Kepo.
After a quick burst up the middle, Hekari scored just four minutes in when Kepo brilliantly set up the ball for Rex Naime.
The South Island United defenders looked stunned, not expecting the bottom-of-the-table Hekari to compete this well.
Rovu Boyers and David Yoo led the surge for South Island United. They combined well, and this led to Boyers scoring their first goal of the match.
In the 27th minute, South Island United pressed the Hekari box once more and panicked. PNG defence scored an own goal.
In the second half, Hekari battled hard for possession but just couldn’t seem to convert pressure into points.
South Island United controlled the pace as coach Rob Sherman issued instructions from the sideline.
Attacking midfielder Boyers scored his second goal in the 63rd minute, beating Hekari goalkeeper Dave Tomare convincingly.
A beautiful cross from Lewis Partridge gave Boyers the golden opportunity to score his hat-trick in the 80th minute, and South Island United led 4–1.
Hekari did their best to get back in the game and were firing ambitious shots from a long way out, but Steven Van Dijk was in form in the South Island goal.
At the final whistle, South Island United 4–1.
