Tuvalu tuna talks

Officials arrive on Tuvalu for PNA meeting

PARTIES to the Nauru Agreement officials have started discussions in Tuvalu ahead of the 19th Special Ministerial Meeting (SPNAMIN19).

The session focused on reviewing the Provisional Agenda, which will guide preparations for the upcoming 4th PNA Leaders’ Summit.

Key areas under discussion included progress updates, strategic ways forward such as enhancing sustainable management and increasing value chain participation, as well as policy challenges and opportunities.

Officials also considered the proposed plan of action for the next two years, the Leaders’ Retreat, and the signing of the Summit Communique.

In addition, ministers at the pre-Leaders’ meeting will address important items not on the PNALEAD4 agenda, including the Eastern High Seas Closure, guidelines for participants to PNA legal instruments, and the FSMA Review.

These discussions form the foundation for ministerial deliberations later this week and reflect the continued commitment of the Parties to the Nauru Agreement in ensuring sustainable management of tuna resources and strengthening regional cooperation.
