Vanuatu leader of the Opposition bloc, Alatoi Ishmael Kalsakau, has called on Prime Minister Jotham Napat to immediately release a Commission of Inquiry report into the country’s Citizenship Programme and related matters.

Kalsakau raised concern over the government’s continued silence since the report was officially handed to the Minister of Justice last Tuesday.

“The people of Vanuatu deserve to know what has been uncovered. The report belongs to the public, and the government must not sit on it in silence,” Kalsakau said.

The inquiry began in June 2024 and was tasked with investigating allegations of corrupt practices within the passport and citizenship schemes.

The inquiry was sparked by public outrage and claims of systemic abuse involving the sale of passports and misuse of the Citizenship Programme for personal and political gain.

Kalsakau said making the findings public is essential for transparency and accountability.
