Former regional fisheries boss joins new university

A RESPECTED Pacific leader has quit the region’s largest university to join an emerging learning institution.

Dr Manumatavai Tupou-Roosen – former acting Deputy Vice Chancellor for the University of the South Pacific – joined the Pasifika Communities University, Suva, today.

With 30 years of experience in fisheries and ocean governance, she will head the PCU School for the School of Ecology and Resilience Development at.

Tupou-Roosen previously served as Director-General of the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency, the first woman to lead the organisation.

Her leadership in this role has been widely respected across the region and internationally.

In her new role, Tupou-Roosen will strengthen Pasifika sustainable development, environmental custodianship, and alternative development paradigms born out of the resilience and relational cultures of Pasifika communities.

She holds a PhD in Law from the University of Nottingham, England.
