SOLOMON Islands voter and polling records are secure despite a fire which razed the country’s electoral commission office on Wednesday.
Electoral Commissioner, Jasper Anisi, said critical data was stored off-site through a government ICT system.
He assured voters and the public that all the Solomon Island Electoral Commission data base and records remained secure.
“We can be thankful there was no loss of life – all our staff are safe,’’ he told local media.
He said the office remained committed to providing services to the public and would continue to prepare for national and local elections in 2028.
The fire broke out at the site on Vavaya Ridge early on Wednesday and, fanned by strong winds, quickly engulfed the building.
Crews from the Solomon Islands Police Fire and Rescue Service responded immediately and fought hard to control the blaze. They were able to stop the spread of the fire but unable to save the building.
