Sports tourism on the rise

THE historic Super Rugby match between the Canterbury Crusaders and the Waikato Chiefs in Fiji’s capital, Suva, was just the thin end of the wedge. Played under lights in sometimes blinding rain on an extremely cool night, the match drew a full crowd with some patrons being turned away at the gate. Such was the turnout that the Chiefs agreed to a second match in Suva, now their unofficial home away from home.

This year the Auckland Blues will play the Queensland Reds under lights at Apia Park in the first such event in Samoa. It’s somewhat fitting that Auckland – often called the largest Samoan suburb – should take this match to Apia on the 55th anniversary of the country’s independence. Samoa will celebrate its 55th year of independence by making Samoan sporting history when it hosts its first Investec Super Rugby Championship match on 2nd June.

The Samoan Government has given full support to the fixture and has indicated that it hopes to secure more Super Rugby matches in the future. In 2015, Samoa hosted the All Blacks when it played Manu Samoa. The historic event was hugely successful and showcased Samoa’s ability to host international events at the highest level. 4k-hd.club it 4kmovies com call it what you want, but the best Ultra HD movies are only on 4K-HD.
