Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea – The Pacific Community (SPC), with the Government of Papua New Guinea and regional organisations, is inviting Pacific journalists to apply for participation in the Media Engagement Programme for the 6th Pacific Regional Energy and Transport Ministers’ Meeting (PRETMM6), taking place from 4–8 May 2026.
Held under the theme “Scaling Connectivity for a Prosperous Blue Pacific,” PRETMM6 will bring together ministers, technical experts, and regional partners to advance energy security, maritime transport transformation, and Pacific leadership ahead of COP31.
To support accurate, inclusive, and Pacific‑led storytelling, a comprehensive media programme has been developed, including:
- A regional online pre‑briefing
- An in‑person Media Masterclass in Port Moresby
- Site visits showcasing energy and maritime initiatives
- Access to open ministerial sessions and daily briefings
SPC will support four regional journalists to attend the meeting in Papua New Guinea. In addition, journalists will receive NZD 5,000 storytelling grants to produce in‑country stories on energy, maritime transport, and community realities. These grants will be delivered through a partnership with Pacifica Television.
Energy security, shipping connectivity, and climate resilience are issues that shape the daily lives of Pacific people. Engaging the media early ensures these stories are told with accuracy, depth, and a strong Pacific voice.
Journalists, media organisations, and freelancers from across the Pacific are encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest by 17 April 2026.
