PARTS of Fiji have started to experience heavy rain as Tropical Cyclone Urmil moves southeast past the group.
The Category Two system was west-southwest of Nadi early today (Sunday), and associated rain bands are expected to affect the entire country until Wednesday.
Fiji’s Meteorological Service has warned of possible flash flooding across the country as water levels continue to rise upstream of most rivers and creeks.
Residents in low-lying areas have been advised to take necessary precautions—including moving to safety—during the day.
Forecast for the Fiji group from the Fiji Meteorological Service:
- Occasional periods of rain, heavy at times with few thunderstorms.
- Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding to low lying and flood prone areas.

Possible impacts:
- Flash flooding of flood prone low-lying informal settlements/communities, businesses and Irish crossings leading to traffic disruptions.

- Wet roads and reduced visibility, especially during heavy downpours, increasing the risk of road accidents.
