From the get-go, Solomon Islands asserted their dominance on Tonga. Lorina Solosaia and Madeline Arukau bedazzled the Tongan defense line with silky football skills.
It was a complete mismatch for the Tongan defenders. Arukau is usually underestimated because of her size but she is a very classy player.
She has wonderful ball skills with explosive speed to match. Arukau scored the first goal just 8 minutes into the game.
Solomon Islands Captain Ileen Pegi played brilliantly – a workhorse in both attack and defense. Pegi scored 2 goals in the first half, both a result of the lethal combination between
Arakau and Solosa. Solomon Islands led 3 – 0 at half time.
The young women from the Kingdom of Tonga did their best to neutralize the Solomons attacks but were soon overwhelmed.
Substitute Jemina David scored a goal for Solomon Islands while Arukau bagged her second in the game.
The match ended 5-0 to Solomon Islands.
Remaining positive despite the result, Tonga Captain, Lositika Feke was proud of her side.
“Even though we have very young players in our team, it was a great opportunity for us to learn. It was a great experience for us. In terms of the mistakes that happened inside the field, they will be something to learn from and improve on for the next tournaments. This has been a great lesson for us to move forward, to see the mistakes that we made and learn from them.”
Solomon Islands moves on to the semifinal stage.
