The Labor government in Australia has announced a massive extension of gas production off the coast of Western Australia (WA), in one of its first major decisions since returning to office in May’s national elections.
On May 28, Australia’s Minister for the Environment Murray Watt provisionally announced the government would “extend the operating life of the North West Shelf gas processing plant in Karratha, Western Australia, beyond the expiry of its current approval in 2030.”
