Waikato Rapids cruise through Mataks FC

SOLOMON Islands Futsal champions needed a win against Waikato Rapids of New Zealand in Game Two on the second day of the OFC championship.

Waikato had a big first round, demolishing Gulf Komara FC 8 – 1 while Mataks FC went down to AS PTT.

It was all action after straight from the kickoff. The teams tussled for possession as they looked to strike the first points.

Calvin Do’oro, Clifford Misitana and Owen Bunabo continued to be the dangerous trio for the Mataks FC attack but they could finish off their moves with a goal.

Cassy Sharplin, Maxwell Ericksen and Benjamin Bordin put the strategies together for Waikato.

Benjamin Bordin finally struck home, taking Waikato Rapids into the lead with four minutes remaining in the first half. Cooper Wink joined him on the scoresheet two minutes later.

Waikato Rapids were ahead 2-0 at halftime.

The Waikato Rapids continued their onslaught and cruised through the second half. Mataks FC could not hide their frustration as the floodgates opened. Keenan Howard, Hemi Innes and Casey Sharplin extended Waikato’s lead with a goal each.

Owen Bunabo scored a consolation for Mataks FC.

The scoreline at fulltime was, Waikato Rapids 5 – 1 Mataks FC. With that win, Waikato Rapids will top the overall table.
