THE United States Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau, received a warm welcome this morning through a traditional Fijian ceremony at the Grand Pacific Hotel.
The event was attended by Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, cabinet ministers, senior government officials, members of parliament, and members of the diplomatic corps.
In his remarks, Deputy Secretary Landau expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Government and people of Fiji for their hospitality.
He reaffirmed the United States’ dedication to strengthening ties and fostering prosperity with Fiji and the broader Pacific region.
“To be here today and participate in this ceremony is something I would never have expected in my life,” said Landau, who also conveyed greetings from President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. “This is an experience I will never forget.”
Following the ceremony, Deputy Secretary Landau was scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Rabuka and senior officials to discuss deepening cooperation between the two nations.
