THE Public Service Commission has appointed Sandradee Fonua Fifita as the new Chief Executive Officer of Tonga’s Ministry of Tourism.

Fifita will officially begin her four-year term on 15 June 2026, following approval by the Minister for Tourism and Cabinet after an open recruitment process.

Originally from Fangaloto in Tongatapu, Fifita brings more than 30 years of experience in the public sector, spanning tourism, trade, commerce, and consumer affairs.

She has previously held several senior leadership roles within government and has been involved in policy development and regional engagement on behalf of Tonga.

The Commission said her experience and leadership qualities would support the continued development of Tonga’s tourism industry and strengthen public sector service delivery.

Fifita holds qualifications from the University of the South Pacific and Wellington Polytechnic in New Zealand.

Her appointment also marks a milestone for women in government leadership, as she becomes the fifth woman serving as a CEO among Tonga’s 18 chief executive positions.

The PSC also acknowledged outgoing CEO Viliami Takau for his service and contribution to the Ministry of Tourism.

Fifita’s contract signing took place in Nuku’alofa on May 28 in the presence of government officials and family members.
