SOLOMON Islanders have been advised against travelling to the Middle East after the United States and Israel attacked targets in Iran overnight.

Iran has responded with rocket attacks on Israel and selected US military bases.

Civilian targets have also been hit in the attacks.

In a public advisory, Solomon Islands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade strongly advised citizens not to travel to the region until further notice.

“Solomon Islanders residing in the Gulf Region and Israel are urged to take necessary precautions, remain calm, follow host country authorities, and monitor reliable updates,” the statement said.

The country’s embassy in the United Arab Emirates is monitoring the situation and reporting back to Honiara.

New Zealand has issued similar advisories to travelers and its citizens living in the Middle East.
