Soon after establishing its Embassy in the United Arab Emirates, Solomon Islands wasted no time in registering its interest to partner with the gulf region in the area of Labour Mobility.
Solomon Islands’ focus is on strengthening cooperation and secure opportunities and arrangements that will increase the participation of Solomon Islanders in UAE’s labour mobility market.
Six Solomon Islanders are now serving in the UAE Airforce working as aircraft engineers. They contribute to the security and safety of the UAE.
Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele MP in a statement during a recent engagement in UAE distinctly expressed, Solomon Islands wish to build on this number going forward.
“Solomon Islands has an abundant workforce that can provide support in several disciplines including in teaching, nursing and health care and the construction industries”, stated PM Manele.
Prime Minister Manele assured the UAE Government, Solomon Islands understand the importance of its nationals meeting the pre-requisite qualifications and entry requirements to the UAE and……“we will work to ensure our workers coming to your labour market meet your requirements.”
The Prime Minister said the Government for National Unity and Transformation is seriously pursuing the Labour Mobility Scheme with the UAE Government through the newly opened Solomon Islands Embassy in Abu Dhabi. Government officials from Solomon Islands and UAE are working on a number of draft Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements covering areas of development and technical cooperation. Once finalised, these will be implemented for the mutual benefit of both countries.
