Shaping the future for all citizens

Flags of Commonwealth Countries

THE Commonwealth is advancing practical legislative initiatives to empower women, youth, and marginalised groups for broader societal impact.

Members shared concrete laws that support women’s and youth rights, emphasising their practical impact on communities.

The Commonwealth’s focus is on touching the lives of its 2.7 billion citizens, with 60 per cent aged under 30 representing a critical demographic.

Elizabeth Macharia, CLMM Deputy Conference Secretary and acting head of the Rule of Law Section, stressed the importance of meaningful, community-rooted outcomes from high-level meetings.

“These initiatives reflect a strategic shift toward inclusive governance that strengthens societal foundations,’’ Macharia said.

The meeting included accredited disability organisations actively shaping the agenda and outcomes.”

She said the side events and accessibility arrangements received high praise, demonstrating a practical commitment to inclusion.

Discussions revealed a growing recognition of past gaps in care and a collective drive to improve support.

The Commonwealth aims to build on this foundation for deeper disability rights progress moving forward.
