Samoa considers national minimum wage

Pat on the back …. Samoa’s workers could be in for a pay rise an d a minimum national wage

SAMOA’S cabinet has approved consultations on a national minimum wage of $WST6 an hour and announced a pay rise for all civil servants.

Prime Minister La’aulialemalietoa Leuatea Schmidt announced that all government employees would receive a pay rise as promised by the Fa’atuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi Party ahead of last year’s election.

La’aulialemalietoa said cabinet approval was given for consultations and review because they wanted to hear from the private sector.

“There are areas in which the government is looking at, like the private sector and the consequences of having another increase on minimum wage,” La’aulialemalietoa said.

The minimum wage in Samoa is $WST4 an hour ($USD1.49) for both public and private sector employees. This rate increased from $WST3 in July 2025.
