PACIFIC foreign ministers have approved a statement on peace in the Middle East, moving the documents to member governments for final endorsement as regional leaders prepare to take up the issue later this year.
The PIFS General Secretary Baron Waqa said the statement had been refined during the meeting and was now ready for circulation.
“The other one is to do with the peace statement that was just approved,’’ Waqa said.
“This is now ready to process and have it passed on to each and every member family member of the forum for their final endorsement.”
He said all foreign ministers endorsed the statement.
The question of how the forum should respond to conflict in the Middle East and to the countries involved was raised repeatedly during the virtual press conference.
In response, Waqa said those issues would be handled through the forum’s member-driven process rather than through an immediate public classification or ruling.
“Until such time, all these other issues that are coming in will be considered as issues that are member-driven and member-presented.”
