One injured in Solomons bomb blast

What a blast … New Zealand soldier with unexploded ordnance in Solomon Islands

AT least one person was injured and admitted to hospital after a World War II bomb exploded in Honiara, Solomon Islands yesterday.

Police said the blast occurred opposite the Town-ground rugby field when the bomb detonated, apparently when it was heated by a burning tree.

The bomb blast victim was rushed to the National Referral Hospital and is believed to be in a stable condition.

Solomon Star reports the  area was cordoned off and police explosive experts responded in minutes to search for other unexploded ordnance.

Two men died in the same area four years ago after a similar explosion.

Meanwhile, Royal Solomon Islands Police Force experts safely disposed of 6121 unexploded bombs and bullets across the country in 2024.
