A NORTHERN Air Bandeirante EMB110 aircraft which overshot the runway at Savusavu today has been cleared to return to service.
The twin turbo prop ended up on grass after landing in low visibility and strong cross winds.
Northern Air engineers were flown to Savusavu and established there was no mechanical or structural damage.
Once this was verified by Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji engineers, the aircraft operated the return service to Nausori.
Northern Air CEO, Captain Sen, said the aircraft – registration DQ-NAS had continued to operate throughout the day.
“We are satisfied with all safety aspects and those have been verified by Civil Aviation Authority” Sen said. “We are thankful there were no injuries to passengers.”
Residents praised the skill of the pilots who landed the plane in difficult conditions.
