NEW Zealand has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with Fiji across key sectors, including defence, community development, and disaster response.

Speaking in Suva, New Zealand’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Greg Andrews, highlighted the deep and enduring relationship between the two countries, built on shared values, mutual trust, and longstanding people-to-people ties.

He said both nations continue to work closely in areas such as housing, healthcare, and community development, ensuring opportunities are created for people across Fiji.

“Our relationship with Fiji feels natural because it is built on shared values and a strong sense of partnership,” he said.

Andrews also mentioned that cooperation extends to defence, with both countries supporting each other over the years through joint initiatives and regional security efforts.

He made the remarks while hosting a reception in Suva to mark Waitangi Day, New Zealand’s national day.

The event was attended by Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, cabinet ministers, members of parliament, and members of the diplomatic corps.

The High Commissioner also acknowledged Fiji’s support for New Zealand during difficult times, including assistance following the 2011 Christchurch earthquake.

He said such gestures reflect the deep friendship between the two countries and demonstrate the strength of regional solidarity in times of need.

Andrews added that continued collaboration would help both countries address shared challenges and create stronger communities across the Pacific.
