SAMOA appears to be on track for a new prime minister.
After the provisional election count, the FAST Party has 28 seats in the 50-seat Fono or Parliament.
Party leader Laʻaulialemalietoa Leuatea Schmidt, who led a revolt against former Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata’afa, won a huge majority in his constituency.
Provisional results show FAST with 28 seats, Tuila’epa Malielagaoi’s HRPP with 15 and SUP under Mata’afa with three.
According to the Samoa Observer, five seats remain to be declared.
But FAST appears to be in a position to lead the next government.
