The Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Prime Ministers Cup organising committee has confirmed that its upcoming event scheduled for September 17-30 in Vanuatu will go ahead, despite the dissolution of parliament.
Acting Director General to the Vanuatu Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Paul Nalau confirmed the tournament is still on in a statement.
“As the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the Inaugural MSG Prime Ministers’ Cup, I take this opportunity to provide assurance to the people of Vanuatu and the Governments of MSG including our two main partners, OFC and Australia, that given the Council of Ministers’ Decision number 128 of 2022 and the mandate of the MSG Sports Ministers Council, the Inaugural MSG Prime Ministers’ Cup will still be held.”
“LOC has the mandate of the Government of Vanuatu and will be working with the Caretaker / Transitional Government to ensure that their obligations, as per decisions taken by the Government prior to the Head of State exercising the People’s Constitutional power to dissolve the Parliament, are upheld, honoured and implemented.”
