A MILITARY exercise between Australia, the United States, and Papua New Guinea have ended, signalling firmer ties in the region.
Operation Talisman Sabre was conducted in Lae and Wewak, Papua New Guinea. This was the first time the war games took place outside Australia.
Vice Admiral Justin Jones, Chief of Joint Operations for the Australian Defence Force, said the past three weeks have highlighted the strength of working with trusted allies.
“Our greatest strength lies in our allies, partners, and like-minded friends,” he said.
“Talisman Sabre proves we can train together, plan together, and be ready, if needed, to defend our shared security.”
The exercise involved 19 nations with Vietnam and Malaysia observing for the first time.
It focused on preparing for high-end warfare, humanitarian work, and disaster response.
