Fiji and Tonga record first win at Pacific Netball series

Fiji and Tonga won their first matches in the PacificAus Sports Netball Series in Sydney, Monday afternoon.

Fiji defeated Samoa 55-44 whilst Tonga thrashed Papua New Guinea 85-42.

Outstanding players on Fiji’s team, goal attack Unaisi Rauluni and goal shooter Matila Vocea made perfect attempts at goal which led to their win.

Tonga, on the other hand, played spectacularly against PNG and will match Fiji today, Samoa on Wednesday and Singapore on Friday, ending with the finals on Saturday.

Tongan Prime Minister Sovaleni wished the team all the best in the series. “Their participation brings hope as it shows that with perseverance and determination we will get through this difficult time,” he said referring to the current challenges of recovering and rebuilding from the January 15 Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai events and COVID-19 crisis.”

The netball series will run this week from March 21-26 with all matches being played at the Sydney Olympic Park. Fixture can be found on Netball Australia’s official website.
