The newly-established Fiji-Canada Business Council hopes to tap into the opportunities presented by the 100,000 plus diaspora in Canada.
“We are here to help Canadian businesses and investors navigate the opportunities in Fiji,” Investment Fiji CEO, Kamal Chetty said at the launch of the council last week.
The council is being established following a business mission to North America earlier this year.
Fijian representatives engaged with key sectors such as tourism, agribusiness, renewable energy, and technology during the visit to Canada.
Investment Fiji and the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation (FCEF) are driving the partnership.
“We are here to help Canadian businesses and investors navigate the opportunities in Fiji,” Chetty said. “Together, let us harness the power of partnership to build a stronger and brighter future for Fiji and Canada.”
The mission to Canada, which marked the first official delegation from Fiji to the country in over 30 years, laid the groundwork for fostering closer ties between the two nations.
The council also presents an exciting opportunity for collaboration with the large Fijian diaspora in Canada.
The President of the Fiji-Canada Business Council and FECF, Himen Chandra is enthuastic about the initiative.
“The council symbolises a commitment for collaboration, one that will unlock doors to prosperity not only for business but also for the people of Fiji,” he said.
With over 120,000 people of Fijian origin in Canada and approximately 150 Fijian-owned enterprises, Chandra pointed out the vast potential for knowledge-sharing and mutual growth.
“Canada is known for its robust economy, advanced industries, and commitment to sustainable development,” he stated.
“Aligning Fiji’s dynamic and growing private sector with Canadian business offers promising prospects for knowledge- sharing, technical advancement, and mutual growth.”
