Canoe sails Fiji-Solomons in 8 days

The Uto Ni Yalo tracks towards Lata, Solomon Islands

SAILING for eight days, the Uto Ni Yalo is expected to make landfall in Lata, Solomon Islands tonight (Saturday).

The ocean-going canoe left Suva, Fiji, on August 22 with 15 crew from around the Pacific.

Powered by the wind, the Uto will team up with local crew and the canoe Tepuke for the next leg to Honiara.

Together, the voyagers will advocate on the fringes of the Pacific Island Leaders Forum for safe, clean, and sustainable oceans.

This is the second time the Uto Ni Yalo has sailed to the forum.

The first voyage to the forum was from Suva to Nuku’alofa, Tonga, last year.

The crew reported early today that all are well.
