A sports development programme, ran by the Australian Government, is expanding to the Solomon Islands prior to the 2023 Pacific Games.
Team Up, comprising of more than 30 partnerships across the Asia-Pacific, aims to support programmes that are focused on gender and disability inclusion in sports.
A selection process is set to be undertaken to identify successful sport for development partnerships to deliver their programmes in the Solomon Islands.
Team Up looks to work towards sport programmes that attract and retain women, girls and people with a disability as well as men and boys, sport organisation that are safe, inclusive and accessible, and ensure partners use sport to strengthen relationships and build closer collaboration.
The Australian Government said it was inviting interested applicants to register and attend Team Up’s information session and application readiness workshop at the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport in Honiara.
The two events are due to be staged today and tomorrow.
The Solomon Islands are due to host the Pacific Games from November 19 to December 2 next year. The country has never previously held the multi-sport event.
