Akon set to celebrate PNG’s 50th anniversary

AMERICAN singer, songwriter, rapper, and record producer, Akon, is set to electrify Papua New Guinea’s 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations, confirmed for September 16.

After months of keeping everyone on the line, he made the announcement in a video message, and his confirmation has been widely shared across social media platforms by fans and news outlets in Papua New Guinea. 

According to the Papua New Guinea Post-Courier, Metropolitan Superintendent of the NCD Command, Warrick Simatab, accidentally revealed an update on security preparations in the National Capital.

“The three major events at Sir John Guise, I think the music concert for Akon, and there is another artist they will let us know on this,” Simatab said.

Akon has won numerous awards, including the RIAA Gold & Platinum Awards for his songs, such as “Don’t Matter,” “Lonely,” “Smack That,” “Right Now (Na Na Na),” and “I’m So Paid,” all of which have received RIAA certifications, indicating significant sales and streams.
