American Samoa's Senate has passed a bill that will increase fees paid to jurors for the first time in 44 years. The bill acknowledges the “important role in the criminal legal system” jurors play and more than doubles jury fees to US$25 for each half day and US$50 for each day a juror is in court. The bill also states that 30% of all traffic fines imposed by the court shall be used to pay for the increased jury fees.
