Fiji Ports Corporation Ltd and the Australian Government have signed a deal to look at redevelopment options for the Lautoka foreshore.
The A$380,000 (FJ$558,000) grant will pay for a high-level feasibility study to inform the redevelopment of the Lautoka foreshore area within the Port boundary.
In a joint statement they say the growth in the volume of cargo and passengers into Fiji, “the redevelopment plan and assessment will assist in managing future capacity constraints, providing support to Fiji’s economic growth and the jobs that come with it.”
Australia’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Ewen McDonald, noted his country is “also financing, alongside ANZ Fiji, the maintenance and upgrades to Nadi’s international airport, and several outer island runways – better connecting Fijians domestically and internationally.”
With the Fiji Roads Authority, Australia is supporting the rehabilitation of nine bridges, and resurfacing roads across Viti Levu.
