PM Wale on Australia visit

THE Prime Minister of Solomon Islands, Matthew Wale, has arrived in Australia on his first official overseas visit since taking office.

Wale is scheduled to hold a Leaders’ Meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Wednesday, June 3.

His cabinet ministers will hold high level talks expected to focus on strengthening the Solomon Islands–Australia partnership, with discussions centred on regional stability, development cooperation, economic growth, security collaboration, and climate resilience.

Wale’s delegation comprises Minister for Foreign Affairs Rick Hou; Minister for National Planning and Development Coordination Peter Kenilorea Jnr; Minister for Police John Tuhaika Jnr; Minister for Infrastructure Development Rick Fuo’o; and Minister for Education Stephen Kumi.

The Minister for Finance and Treasury, Gordon Darcy Lilo, is expected to join the delegation in Canberra later in the week.

Following the engagements in Australia, Wale and selected members of his delegation will proceed to New Zealand for the second leg of the visit.

There, he is expected to meet Prime Minister Christopher Luxon to further strengthen bilateral relations and development cooperation between the two countries.
