FIJI has announced that the general election campaign period started yesterday.
The Electoral Commission declared the formal race open ahead of a vote due between August 7, 2026, and February 5, 2027.
The campaign window will close 48 hours before election day, in line with the Electoral Act 2014, the commission said.
Under the law, campaigning cannot begin earlier than 30 days before the completion of three years and six months from the date Parliament first sat after the last general election.
The commission said the earliest possible date on which a writ of election may be issued would be June 24.
It urged political parties, candidates, supporters, organisations and members of the public to campaign peacefully, truthfully and in accordance with the law.
