The Tuvalu Fisheries Authority (TFA), in partnership with the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade, is seeking an experienced Offshore Fisheries Technical Adviser to support the sustainable management of Tuvalu’s offshore fisheries and strengthen institutional capacity within the Authority.
This senior advisory role will guide TFA in delivering its corporate and annual work plans, improving fisheries governance, and maximising economic and social benefits from Tuvalu’s vast Exclusive Economic Zone. The Adviser will provide technical support across policy development, compliance, organisational systems, and regional engagement with bodies such as the PNA, FFA, WCPFC and SPC.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and mentoring fisheries management capability within TFA
- Supporting policy development, board papers, budgets, and organisational planning
- Coordinating with regional fisheries agencies and ensuring Tuvalu meets its international obligations
- Supporting implementation of the Tuvalu Fisheries Support Programme (TFSP3) and World Bank PROP activities
Applicants should have 10+ years’ fisheries sector experience, including senior management or advisory roles, strong capacity‑building skills, and proven experience working in Pacific or cross‑cultural environments.
