SUVA, FIJI- The Fiji National University (FNU) Foundation proudly marked its one-year anniversary and launched its fourth hub at the FNU Nasinu Campus today, Thursday 2 April 2026.
Established a year ago at the Bonunaqwele Campus in Nadi, the Foundation was founded with a clear commitment — to expand access, support innovation, and ensure that financial barriers do not hinder talent and determination.
Chief Guest and FNU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba, whose brainchild is the FNU Foundation, highlighted that the Foundation’s work is guided by a simple yet powerful belief — that education is not merely a privilege for a few, but a right for all who are willing to strive for it.
“We have seen generosity translated into scholarships. We have seen partnerships evolve into opportunities. And most importantly, we have seen students empowered to dream bigger and reach further,” Professor Nabobo-Baba said.
“Today we have taken another significant step forward with the launch of the FNU Foundation Nasinu Hub, we are expanding the reach of the Foundation and bringing support closer to our students. This hub represents more than just a physical space — it symbolises accessibility, connection, and continuity.”
FNU Foundation Executive Director, Kanito Lovobalavu, revealed that over the past twelve months, the Foundation has evolved from an idea into a functioning and impactful institution.
“I am proud to share that we have successfully raised over $100,000 in donations. These contributions have come from a diverse network of generous corporate partners, philanthropic individuals, and importantly, our very own FNU staff,” Lovobalavu shared. “Through the Foundation, we have already assisted more than 200 students. For many of them, the support received — though sometimes modest — has provided comfort and continuity, often making the critical difference between staying in school or withdrawing due to financial hardship.”
The Foundation has also extended its support to essential staff at FNU’s western campuses — the frontline workers who keep the University running. Through initiatives such as the Coffee Forward Programme and the Veilomani Closet, these staff members have been able to access similar support mechanisms as students.
Lovobalavu also acknowledged major sponsors, including FMF Foods Limited for the Veilomani Pantry and Value City for the Veilomani Closet.
The Foundation is now calling on staff and the wider public to further engage through giving, volunteering, and contributing their time and expertise at its hubs.
