ENVIRONMENTAL impact on global and regional architecture was the focus of the heads of the Council of Regional Organisations in the Pacific in Nadi, Fiji, on Friday.

Reflecting on the 2050 Strategy, the heads of CROP agencies looked at its implementation and the ongoing work of a Review of Regional Architecture.

The CROP bosses discussed how best to position their organisations to address views which emerged from the 54th Pacific Islands Forum in Honiara, Solomon Islands.

The CROP agencies are the Pacific Aviation Safety Office (PASO); Pacific Community (SPC); Pacific Islands Development Program (PIDP); Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA); Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS); Pacific Power Association (PPA); Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO); Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP); and The University of the South Pacific (USP).

Forum Secretary General, Baron Waqa, said he was encouraged by the meeting.

“This was the first gathering of CROP Heads in Retreat format. It was a constructive opportunity for open and frank discussions on a range of systems proposals, coordination, harmonisation, and resource mobilization,’’ he said.

CROP heads also had the opportunity to discuss the recent escalation in the Middle East and its potential implications for the Pacific region, particularly in relation to fuel prices, supply chains, and economic pressures facing its members.
