THE Pacific Islands Forum will host key climate events leading up to COP31, Forum Chair and Solomon Islands Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele announced.

Fiji will host the COP31 Pre-COP Meeting in October, with a special Leaders component in Tuvalu.

These events follow a special climate meeting at the 55th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in Palau in early September.

The announcement comes after an agreement between Australia and Türkiye that allows the Pacific to host these critical gatherings before the World Leaders’ Summit in Türkiye in November.

Manele highlighted the chance for vulnerable Pacific nations to lead on climate action and for global powers to listen.

The Palau Leaders Meeting will help the region unify its climate stance, setting the stage for coordinated advocacy at the UN General Assembly, Pre-COP, and COP31.

Manele acknowledged Australia’s support and said the forum family is ready to help Palau, Fiji, and Tuvalu host these important events, drawing on the region’s climate leadership and experience.
