FIJI’s Speaker of Parliament, Filimone Jitoko, was installed as the new Chancellor of the University of Fiji (UniFiji) earlier this week, marking a key leadership transition.

He pledged to serve faithfully with fairness, wisdom and impartiality, to promote academic excellence, and to support the faculty, staff and students in their pursuit of knowledge, research and service to the community.

“I undertake this role with humility, dedication and a steadfast commitment to the principles and values enshrined in the University Act for the advancement and the reputation of the University of Fiji,” Jitoko said.

His appointment signals a strategic emphasis on principled leadership, with wisdom, impartiality, dedication, and humility, to enhance the university’s reputation.

Jitoko—a former judge on the Fiji and Nauru bench—was installed as Chancellor during the UniFiji graduation ceremony at the Saweni Campus in Lautoka.
