Australia-Fiji business forum to focus on growth, digitalisation, and sustainability

THE upcoming 29th Australia-Fiji Business Forum, taking place from 22–24 October 2025 at the Hilton Surfers Paradise Hotel, will bring together business leaders, policymakers, and industry experts for three days of strategic dialogue on trade, investment, and economic transformation.

The event will open with the Queensland’s Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training, Roslyn (Ros) Bates, to deliver the chief guest address.

Day Two will begin with the official opening, featuring welcome remarks by Australia Fiji Business Council President Zane Yoshida, alongside keynote addresses from the Australian Government (TBC) and Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Small Medium Enterprises and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica.

The Macroeconomic and Financial Briefing will include presentations from Fiji’s Minister for Finance, Biman Prasad, and Westpac’s Pacific Economist, Justin Smirk.

In the session on Supporting Growth of Fijian Businesses, delegates will hear from Saud Minam of the Asian Development Bank and Kelera Cavuilati of the Market Development Facility.

The Investment Promotion and Outcomes session will feature Investment Fiji CEO Kamal Chetty, and additional speakers focused on Fiji’s evolving investment landscape.

A key highlight will be the Business Process Outsourcing session, led by Outsource Fiji’s Josefa Wivou and featuring a case study from Lisa Apted, Managing Partner at KPMG Fiji.

In the session on Growing Fiji’s Agricultural Exports, speakers will include Agriculture Minister Tomasi Tunabuna, Avi Rebera from the Australian Office of Drug Control, and Zane Yoshida in his capacity as Director of The Calmer Co.

Day Three will begin with the Infrastructure Opportunities: Building a More Sustainable Fiji session, bringing together leaders from the Ministry of Public Works, Water Authority of Fiji, Energy Fiji Limited, Fiji Ports Corporation, Fiji Roads Authority, and Airports Fiji Limited.

The session on Supporting Bilateral Trade and Investment will feature Leata Alaimoana of Trade and Investment Queensland, Tim Houghton of Austrade Suva, and Tim Martin of Pacific Trade Invest Australia.

The Digitalisation of Fiji session will include representatives from Google Fiji, Standards Australia, and cybersecurity organisation ID Care.

Another forward-looking session on Green Climate Funding Opportunities will be led by Professor Paul Dargusch of Monash Business School’s Pacific Action for Climate Transitions.

The penultimate session, Sports Diplomacy and Economic Opportunity, is expected to feature representatives from the Fijian Drua, DRUA Foundation, and sports business leaders highlighting the intersection of sport, trade, and tourism.

The forum will close with remarks from Himen Chandra, President of the Fiji Australia Business Council, ending what is expected to be a high-impact event for regional cooperation and business innovation.
