“When I started doing music here in New Zealand 32 years ago, it was a pretty lonely place for a young Pacific Island woman,” says Pacific creative powerhouse, Ngaire Fuata.
But the New Zealander persevered and has just received the New Zealand Ministry for Pacific Peoples Special Recognition award for Outstanding Achievement for her contribution to Pacific music.
The award recipients, who this year also included Tagata Pasifika and Niu FM, are selected by the Pacific Music Awards Trust.
