November was an incredibly busy month where it saw Papua New Guinea stood tall in marketing itself and the rest of the Pacific with it to the world by hosting what’s deemed to be the largest ever conference to be staged in our part of the ocean.

The picture above shows 10 of Fiji’s 500,000 voters that went to the polls during the month, and despite a sometimes fiery and spirited four weeks of campaign, Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama and his FijiFirst Party won another four year term, although with the slimmest of margins.

No sooner had he taken his oath as Prime Minister and attended the first sitting of the new parliament, Bainimarama was off again, this time to Katowice, host of December’s COP24, the United Nations Conference on Climate Change. As President of COP23 which Germany hosted last year, Bainimarama’s presence was required so that he could handover the presidency to the Polish Foreign Minister.
The magazine through our association with the global journalism network Internews and its environmental Earth Journalism Network will be in Katowice to report on how the world grapples with the mechanics of implementing the Paris Climate Change Agreement. IB will also be at this month’s Pacific Tuna Commission negotiations in Hawaii.
