SPBD FIJI CENTRE CHIEF OF THE YEAR 2023
This award recognises the SPBD Fiji Centre Chief who exhibited great
influence in community leadership and entrepreneurship.
Congratulations to SPBD Fiji Centre Chief of the Year
2023, Alisi Naiqama (Nakavu Centre, Nadi)!
Alisi runs Namatata Homely Baking in Nakavu Village, Nadi.
She also sells clothes, shoes, and bags.
She says as Centre Chief, she tries to promote and maintain
a culture and an environment where every Centre member
feels a sense of belonging. Creating and maintaining a sense
of unity and support has been important to Nakavu Centre’s
success.
Alisi says over her nine years as Centre Chief, absenteeism
has been low. “I have witnessed and continue to witness
women supporting and empowering each other, sharing ideas
and interests.
“I use technology and messaging to ensure Centre members
are kept up to date and manage repayment reminders. I have
also been able to access the services of the Small Claims
Tribunal to ensure that members are held accountable for
delinquent loans.”
Under Alisi’s leadership, Nakavu Centre has an active bank
account that supplements group and Centre savings.
At the end of the year, funds are redistributed. Alisi tells
members that if they give more, they will get more in return.
That’s why they will be rewarded at the end of the year.
