SPBD FIJI CENTRE OF THE YEAR 2023
This award recognises the SPBD Fiji Centre that showed the strongest
organisational skills and full support of the SPBD programme.
Congratulations to SPBD Fiji Centre of the Year 2023,
Waimanu Centre (Suva)!
With 25 members organised into five groups—each named
after trees important to their families —Waimanu Centre
supports a diverse range of businesses, including grog sales,
cakes, canteens, frozen food, phone recharge cards, bus cards,
batteries, handicrafts and taxis.
Waimanu Centre stands out for its innovative approach,
such as offering internal grants that all members can access
through money regularly collected from the group. This
system helps with payments and savings, with any balance
going towards the Centre fund. The Centre also holds BBQs
and lovos as fundraising activities. Its contributions to the
village include purchasing curtains and kitchen equipment
for the village hall, as well as bedding for the village church
minister.
