Islands Business vacancy: Investigative Reporter, Pacific Islands

About the Role

Islands Business is looking for an experienced reporter who can break and regularly deliver high quality original investigative stories across platforms.  You will be independent with a track record of generating content across media platforms that appeals to a regional and international audience, utilising a range of contacts, sources and investigative techniques.

This is a newly created role. You will receive training and ongoing support from within our newsroom and from a regional and international network of investigative reporters.

The role will also:

  • With support from the Islands Business (IB) editors and the journalism networks to which IB belongs, generate exclusive Pacific region stories utilising a wide network of contacts, trusted sources, research, data and open-source intelligence (OSINT) techniques.
  • Write engaging and accurate copy, using creative storytelling techniques. 
  • Maintain knowledge of current and emerging online investigative reporting tools and resources and participate in training in these tools. 
  • Respond to analytics to produce content that resonates with the Islands Business audience, in formats that drive engagement.

About You

We are seeking a creative self-starter with experience as a journalist in a digital  environment in the Pacific Islands region, with a list of sources and contacts built throughout your career. You will have written extensively about business and Pacific economies. You work well individually and collaborating in a (virtual) team environment. You will be willing to learn new investigative reporting techniques using open source and online tools. You are able to write engaging material and suggest ways of presenting it in creative, digital-first ways. 

You will also have:

  • Experience writing clear, concise copy and longer form/feature articles.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering complex issues in a way that both engages and informs audiences across a range of platforms.
  • The ability to travel regionally and internationally.
