SOLOMON Islands Prime Minister will meet Papua New Guinea counterpart James Marape for one day of talks to deepen cooperation on trade, mining, security, and regional affairs.

This is Wale’s second official overseas visit, the first being to Australia and New Zealand, where he met with both governments to discuss key regional partnerships.

On the agenda for today’s talks are economic cooperation, security, people-to-people links, and closer collaboration on development priorities.

Marape and Wale are also expected to discuss Solomon Islands’ mining sector reforms, with the Solomon Islands looking to draw on Papua New Guinea’s extensive experience in the industry.

As Chair of the Pacific Islands Forum, Wale will also discuss regional issues, including strengthening Pacific cooperation.

Wale had indicated that he would discuss Bougainville’s path to independence with Marape.
