TUVALU has put partnership at the centre of its next phase of policing.
Prime Minister Feleti Teo launched the Tuvalu Police Service Strategic Plan 2026–2030 and unveiled the Service’s new logo.
The five-year plan was developed under the tenure of Commissioner of Police Matatia Makaili. It will guide the Service as Tuvalu responds to emerging national, regional and global security challenges, while maintaining its vision of “A Safer and More Secure Tuvalu.”
In his address, Teo congratulated Commissioner Makaili and members of the Tuvalu Police Service, saying the Plan reflected broad consultation with government agencies, civil society, regional law enforcement partners and international organisations.
He said the consultation would strengthen community ownership and support for the Police Service.
Teo also acknowledged the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for coordinating the Plan, and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) for financial assistance.
“I wish to reaffirm publicly the Government’s full support for the implementation of this Plan and will offer whatever resources at its disposal to support the Plan,” Prime Minister Teo said.
The new strategy succeeds the 2021–2025 Strategic Plan. It places stronger emphasis on partnership, professionalism and accountability as the Police Service works to meet changing security needs.
Addressing officers, Teo reminded members of the Service of the responsibility that comes with wearing the uniform.
“Wear your uniform and badge with honour and pride, because behind that uniform and badge is a sworn commitment to protect families, safeguard communities, and uphold the rule of law,” he said.
Responding on behalf of the Tuvalu Police Service, Commissioner Makaili thanked the Government, development partners and stakeholders who contributed to the Plan.
He reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to implementing the Plan over the next five years and to strengthening policing through partnership, professionalism and service to the people of Tuvalu.
