SOLOMON Islands Prime Minister Matthew Wale has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to strengthening ties with Japan during bilateral talks with Japanese counterpart Sanae Takaichi in Tokyo.
Wale was accorded a guard of honour on arrival at the Prime Minister’s Office before the two leaders met to discuss ways to deepen cooperation between the two countries.
Prime Minister Takaichi described the visit as a significant occasion and reaffirmed Japan’s longstanding friendship with Solomon Islands, pledging continued support for its government and people.
In response, Wale thanked Japan for its warm hospitality and longstanding partnership.
“Solomon Islands values Japan as a trusted friend that has stood with us through thick and thin. We deeply value this partnership and remain grateful for Japan’s continued support,” he said.
Wale also reaffirmed Solomon Islands’ commitment to maintaining strong and stable relations with Japan and its other development partners.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Takaichi presented Wale with a soccer ball and a ceremonial sword, known as an iaitou, as symbols of friendship and goodwill between the two nations.
