Fiji and New Caledonia have moved another step closer to working together on agricultural projects.
This could see them working together to train young farmers, share knowledge about seed and plant materials, and cooperate on cattle breeding and livestock nutrition programs.
Fiji’s Agriculture Minister Dr Mahendra Reddy said these projects would improve on existing efforts in the agricultural sector and grow Fiji’s exports.
“Our Primary objective is for agriculture sector to grow into the commercial level and we are very excited to partner with New Caledonia,” Dr Reddy said.
French Ambassador Sujiro Sean said Fiji could do more with their French neighbours in the Pacific, with New Caledonia being the closest.
“This is the first step of a cooperation between two neighbours of the Pacific, Fiji and New Caledonia, which will deliver concrete outcomes of agriculture, food Security and rural livelihoods.”
